Harrington wins at St. Andrews

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Ireland's Padraig Harrington Sunday shot a closing 4-under 68 to win the European Tour's Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews, Scotland.

Harrington finished at 16-under 271 -- five shots better than Bradley Dredge (74) of Wales, American Edward Loar (70) and Anthony Wall (67) of England -- to win the tournament for a second time.

"It's always special to come here and win at St. Andrews," said Harrington, who trailed Dredge by one entering the round, but erased that deficit with a 10-foot birdie putt on the first hole. "The first time I won here four years ago it was a little bit tighter. This was the first time I could walk down 18 and enjoy it."

Harrington made his move at No. 9, when he dropped in a 12-foot birdie putt to join Dredge at 14-under.
