MLS: New England 2, DC United 1

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Taylor Twellman scored in the 47th minute and Matt Reis made the lead hold up Saturday as New England downed D.C. United, 2-1.

With the game tied at 1-1 early in the second half, Jay Heaps passed to Twellman, who dove at the six-yard box and put home a header to account for the final margin.

The goal was Twellman's 11th of the season, and the 75th of his career, making him the youngest player in MLS history to reach that plateau at age 26.

United nearly tied the score in the 58th minute when Rod Dyachenko had Reis out of position, but he slid his shot wide of the near post.
