Top seeds bounces from Tashkent Open

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Maria Elena Camerin and No. 3 Sania Mirza were upset Friday in quarterfinal play of the $145,000 Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan.

Camerin, from Italy, managed to win just one game in losing to Belarusian Victoria Azarenka 6-0, 6-1; while sixth-seeded Russian Olga Poutchkova needed three sets in ousting Mirza, from India, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Tashkent's Iroda Tulyaganova earned a semifinals berth with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko. The other quarterfinal match Friday saw China's Tiantian Sun upset eighth-seeded Russian Anastassia Rodionova 6-1, 6-3.

Poutchkova is paired against Tulyaganova in one semifinal Saturday with Sun playing Azarenka in the other. The winners of those matches move to Sunday's finals, with the Tashkent Open winner taking home $22,925.
