NHL: New Jersey 4, Carolina 0

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- New Jersey exacted a measure of revenge in its first game of the new campaign Friday night with a 4-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Carolina beat the Devils in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals on the way to winning the Stanley Cup last season.

Zach Parise scored two goals, Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias each scored once, Brian Gionta had three assists and goaltender Martin Brodeur stopped all 29 Carolina shots to record his 81st career shutout for the Devils (1


0).

Cam Ward gave up four goals on 30 shots for the Hurricanes (0-1-1).

New Jersey out-shot Carolina, 30-29.

On the power play, Devils went 1-for-5 while stopping the Hurricanes on all five of their chances.
