Grosjean makes the semifinals in Metz

METZ, France, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- France's Sebastien Grosjean Friday beat countryman Arnaud Clement, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals of the Open de Moselle tennis tournament in France.

The two players are long-time friends and had a large native crowd buzzing during the nearly 3-hour match.

Clement won the Open de Moselle in 2003, and Grosjean, who began the season by reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and semis in Marseille, had little success in the second half of the season, winning only two matches in four events since Wimbledon.

In another all-French match, wild card Marc Gicquel beat Florent Serra, 6-4, 7-5.

Also, Jurgen Melzer of Austria topped American Mardy Fish 1-6, 7-5, 7-5; and No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia was an easy 6-4, 6-1 winner against qualifier Tobias Clemens of Germany.

In Saturday's semifinals Gicquel will play Melzer and Grosjean faces Djokovic.
