Casey flies to Dunhill lead with eagle

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- England's Paul Casey finished with a 9-under-par 63 Thursday to take the first-round lead in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

Casey has a 1-stroke lead over Bradley Dredge and Johan Edfors, both at 8-under 64. The tournament is played on three courses for the first three days with the final round at St. Andrew's Old Course. Casey and Edfors played their first rounds at Kingsbarns while Dredge started on the Old Course.

Vijay Singh and Gary Evans were in fourth two strokes off the lead and a group of six players was at 6-under-par.

Casey, who started on Kingsbarns' No. 10, had birdies on four of his first seven holes and beat par by four strokes in three holes with birdies at Nos. 2 and 3 and an eagle 2 at No. 4 to go to 8-under. He finished his round with a birdie to take the outright lead.
