STUTTGART, Germany, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- The second and third seeds were winners Wednesday at the Porsche Grand Prix women's tennis tournament in Stuttgart, Germany.
In second round matches, No. 2 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia beat unseeded Martina Muller of Germany, 6-1, 6-4; and fellow Russian Elena Dementieva, the third seed, beat unseeded Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

In first rounders, No. 8 seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia beat unseeded and four-time Grand Slam winner Mary Pierce of France, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3; and unseeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia beat Sybille Bammer of Austria; 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
In the second round, Tszvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria topped unseeded Karolina Sprem of Croatia, 6-1, 6-4.
