TOKYO, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Britain's Tim Henman lost just three games Tuesday in advancing in the $765,000 Japan Open Tennis Championships.
Henman was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Canadian Frank Dancevic and will meet Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro in the tournament's second round. Del Porto upset seventh-seeded American Robby Ginepri, 6-2, 6-2.
Among those posting victories as the first round was completed Tuesday was Serbian qualifier Viktor Troicki, who earned the chance to meet top-seeded Swiss Roger Federer in the second round. It is Federer's first match in competition since he won the U.S. Open.
Japan Open defending champion Wesley Moodie, from South Africa, is seeded 13th and opens his title defense Wednesday against Austrian Stefan Koubek.
The tournament continues through Sunday with the champion earning $118,000.
