Top-seed Camerin advances in Tashkent

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Maria Elena Camerin of Italy was among Monday's first-round winners at the Tashkent Open by beating Jing Ren of China 6-1, 5-7, 7-5.

An upset saw Uzbekistan's Iroda Tulyaganova defeat fifth-seeded Belarusian Anastasiya Yakimova 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Additional wins came for Russian Alla Kudryavtseva, Belarusian Ekaterina Dzehalevich and Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn, who knocked out last year's Tashkent runner-up Akgul Amanmuradova 6-4, 7-5.
