FOXBORO, Mass., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Steve Ralston, Jose Manuel Abundis, and Clinton Dempsey scored goals Saturday as New England beat Colorado, 3-1, in a Major League Soccer match at Foxboro.
The Revolution (10-8-12) set sail after Ralston's goal in the game's fourth minute to clinch a playoff spot for the fifth straight season.
Abundis scored in the 58th minute, and Dempsey scored in the 79th minute.
After the win and Chicago's 1-0 loss to New York, the Revolution is just two points behind the Fire, in third place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Both teams have two regular season games remaining.
Kyle Beckerman scored on a penalty kick in the 90th minute; and Joe Cannon made four saves in seven shots on goal for the Rapids (11-13-6), whose bid to nail down a playoffs berth in the Western Conference was delayed.
