ST. LOUIS, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A three-run pinch-hit triple by Scott Speizio in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday afternoon gave St. Louis a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Albert Pujols had a run and two hits; while Preston Wilson and starting pitcher Jeff Suppan also had two hits for the Cardinals (83-77), who have won three of their last four games.

St. Louis needs one more win or a loss by Houston to secure the NL Central Division title.

The winning pitcher was reliever Tyler Johnson (2-4).

Adam Wainwright recorded his third save.

Jeff Cirillo hit a two-run single; and Geoff Jenkins had a run and two of the five hits for the Brewers (74-87), who have lost four of their last five games.

In relief, the losing pitcher was Brian Shouse (1-3).
