TORONTO, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Gary Sheffield hit a three-run homer Friday night to help the New York Yankees beat Toronto, 7-2.

Because of injury, it was his first home run since April 26, and gave him 1,500 hits for his career.

Jorge Posada belted a two-run homer and had two hits; Alex Rodriguez had one run, three hits, and one RBI; and a run scored on a double play groundout by Bobby Abreu for the Yankees (97-63), who have won four of their last five games.

In six innings, winner Mike Mussina (15-7) allowed one run and just two hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Troy Glaus hit a solo home run; and Aaron Hill drove in a run with the bases loaded walk for the Blue Jays (85-75), who have split their last four games.

Losing pitcher Gustavo Chacin (9-4) gave up five runs, four earned, and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
