DETROIT, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Kansas City scored four times in the top of the 11th inning Friday night and beat the Detroit Tigers, 9-7.
In the big inning, Emil Brown and Paul Phillips hit solo home runs; and Jeff Keppinger hit a two-run shot.
The home runs were hit in three consecutive at-bats.
Keppinger and Brown each had two RBI; while David DeJesus, Mike Sweeney, and Joey Gathright all had three hits for the Royals (60-100), who broke a nine-game losing streak.
The winner was Zack Greinke (1-0).
Joel Peralta recorded his first save.
Curtis Granderson hit two solo home runs and scored three times; Carlos Guillen had one run, three hits, and three RBI; Matt Stairs and Ivan Rodriguez each had one RBI; both Magglio Ordonez and Sean Casey had a run and two hits for the Tigers (95-65), who have dropped three straight games.
The losing pitcher was Jamie Walker (0-1).
