
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- An RBI single by Jason Bartlett in the bottom of the 10th inning Thursday night gave Minnesota a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals.
Joe Mauer hit a solo home run; and Michael Cuddyer had two of the eight hits for the Twins (95-64), who rose to a tie with Detroit for first place in the AL Central with the seventh win in their last 10 games.
In relief, the winner was closer Joe Nathan (7-0).
Paul Phillips hit an RBI double in the top of the second inning for the only run; Mitch Maier had a run and two hits; and Jeff Keppinger also had two hits for the Royals (59-100), who have dropped nine of their last 10 games and have lost at least 100 games for the third straight season.
The losing pitcher was Scott Dohmann (1-3).
