MLB: LA Angels 2, Oakland 0

ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The LA Angels downed the Oakland Athletics 2-0 Thursday, but the game meant little in playoff terms.

The Angels had been chasing the A's for the second half of the season, but Oakland clinched the division title Tuesday.

The game was highlighted by pitcher John Lackey's eight scoreless innings for the Angels. Lackey (13-11) allowed four hits and didn't walk a batter to improve to 9-2 lifetime against the Athletics.

Mike Napoli hit a home run and Juan Rivera singled in the other LA run, as the Angels won for the fifth time in six games.

The A's were limited to four hits and lost for the fourth time in six games.

Barry Zito (16-10) scattered seven hits and allowed only one run in six innings, but took the loss.
