
COLUMBIA, S.C., Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Kenny Irons rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries Thursday night as third-ranked Auburn eased past South Carolina, 24-17.
Brandon Cox was 13-of-19 for 180 yards and one touchdown; Tommy Trott caught a touchdown pass; and wide receiver Courtney Taylor caught two passes for 43 yards for the Tigers (5-0, 3-0 SEC West).
Syvelle Newton was 21-of 35 passing for 240 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception and added 44 yards on 20 rushing attempts; Kenny McKinley caught eight passes for 110 yards and one touchdown; Jared Cook caught a touchdown pass; and Sidney Rice was limited to four catches for 48 yards for the Gamecocks (3-2, 1-2 SEC).
On 4th-and-1 at the Auburn five with 19 seconds left Newton's lob pass to McKinley was batted away to help the Tigers remain unbeaten.
