Dushevina defeats Kirilenko in Seoul

SEOUL, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Vera Dushevina upset her second-seeded countrywoman Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 in an all-Russian first-round matchup Tuesday at the Korea Open.

Three other top-five seeds avoided upsets, as No. 3 Marion Bartoli of France beat American Jill Craybas, 6-4, 6-1; No. 4 Japanese Ai Sugiyama defeated Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4; and No. 5 Russian Vera Zvonareva beat France's Camille Pin, 6-1, 6-2.

But three other seeds lost as Japan's Akiko Morigami beat sixth-seeded Swede Sofia Arvidsson, 6-0, 6-4; Argentine Paola Suarez beat seventh-seeded countrywoman Gisela Dulko, 6-1, 6-3; and Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual defeated No. 8 Czech Lucie Safarova, 7-5, 6-4.

This week's top seed is former world No. 1 Martina Hingis, who just won Kolkata and will meet Danish qualifier Caroline Wozniacki on Wednesday.
