PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Sergio Garcia, despite an impressive 4-1 mark in last weekend's Ryder Cup, has slipped a spot in the latest world golf rankings to No. 9.
The Spaniard entered the week rated No. 8 in the world and led the Europeans to an 18 1/2-9 1/2 romp over the United States. But in rankings released Monday, Garcia was passed by England's Luke Donald, who was 3-0 in his Ryder Cup matches.
American Tiger Woods remained the top-rated golfer in the world with U.S. Ryder Cup teammates Phil Michelson and Jim Furyk ranked second and third. Vijay Sigh, from Fiji, and Australian Adam Scott round out the top five.
Other golfers in the top 10 are South Africans Retief Goosen and Ernie Els, Donald, Garcia and Australian Geoff Ogilvy.
The biggest ranking leap of the week went to Eric Axley, from Athens, Tenn., who moved up to No. 224 after winning the Texas Open last weekend. Axley entered the tournament with a No. 495 ranking.
