CALCUTTA, India, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Former world No. 1 Martina Hingis Saturday advanced to the final of the Sunfeast Open Tennis Tournament in Calcutta, India.
In the semifinals, Hingis, the top seed, trounced fifth-seeded and native Sania Mirza 6-1, 6-0.
"I don't think the match was that easy," Hingis said. "The points were long. I tried to keep away from her forehand as much as possible, but now her backhand is improving. I served well today, and tried to mix it up. You need to stick to the basics and put pressure on your opponent on big points, and that's what I did."
Mirza was playing in a semifinal for the first time this year.
In Sunday's final, Hingis will play unseeded Olga Poutchkova of Russia.
In a battle of non-seeds, Poutchkova was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan.
