Roy Halladay done for the year

TORONTO, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Toronto Blue Jays ace right-hander Roy Halladay will not pitch again in the 2006 season.

The hard-throwing Halladay has a right forearm strain.

He was lifted in the fourth inning of his most recent start Wednesday night against the New York Yankees when he felt tightness in the area.

Halladay suffered a similar ailment in April, but missed only one start.

The Toronto Sun reported Friday that tests done Thursday showed the forearm has no ligament or structural damage.

"He's done for the year," Toronto General Manager J.P. Ricciardi told the newspaper. "There's no need for him to try and go back out there. It's the right thing to do."

For the season, the former American League Cy Young Award winner was 16-5 with a 3.19 ERA in 32 starts and 220 innings.

He had 34 walks and 132 strikeouts, and was the first pitcher this season to record 16 wins.
