LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- A two-run homer by Olmedo Saenz in the bottom of the first inning Thursday night helped the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Pittsburgh, 5-2.

Marlon Anderson, J.D. Drew and Russell Martin each knocked in one run for the Dodgers (80-73), who are 1/2 game behind San Diego in the NL West after the second win in their last five games.

They scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to get some breathing room.

Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (6-4) went five innings, giving up two runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Takashi Saito recorded his 20th save.

Freddy Sanchez and starter and loser Shane Youman hit RBI singles; and Sanchez, Youman and Xavier Nady all had two hits for the Pirates (65-88), who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Youman (0-2) gave up three runs and three hits in 4 1/3 innings.
