CALCUTTA, India, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Top seed Martina Hingis of Switzerland Wednesday advanced to the third round of the Sunfeast Open at Calcutta, India.
She beat her second-round opponent, Tzipora Obziler of Israel, 6-2, 7-5.

In other matches, fourth-seeded Aravane Rezai of France trounced Tatiana Poutchek, 6-1, 6-2; Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn beat Abigail Spears of the United States, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2; and Germany's Sandra Kloesel topped Galina Voskoboeva of Russia, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-4.
Hingis will play Tanasugarn Thursday, and Kloesel faces Rezai.
