Sania Mirza first-round winner in Sunfeast

CALCUTTA, India, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Indian Sania Mirza was among Tuesday's first-round winners at the Sunfeast Open as she defeated fellow Indian Rushmi Chakravarthi, 6-0, 6-4.

There were three upsets Tuesday as Australian Casey Dellacqua beat second-seeded and 2005 runner-up Karolina Sprem of Croatia 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2; Italian Alberta Brianti beat third-seeded Yuliana Fedak of the Ukraine 6-4, 6-2; and Russian Alla Kudryavtseva defeated her eighth-seeded countrywoman Anastassia Rodionova 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Sprem lost to Russian Anastasia Myskina in last year's Sunfeast finale.

Seventh-seeded Aussie Nicole Pratt avoided an upset by defeating American Sunitha Rao 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
