
NEW YORK, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Michael Tucker singled home the decisive run during the eighth inning and Tom Glavine got his 289th win Tuesday as the New York Mets beat Florida, 3-2.
Having clinched the NL East title on Monday, the Mets rested every starting position player. The only regular in the lineup was Glavine (14-6), who allowed two runs on four hits in eight innings.
Lastings Milledge also singled home a run during the eighth inning for the Mets. Anderson Hernandez hit his first career homer in the third inning for New York.
Wes Helms provided the offense for the Marlins, hitting a two-run homer off Glavine in the second inning. Miguel Olivo had two hits for Florida, which has lost four straight to fall five games behind wild card-leading San Diego.
