SAN DIEGO, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- The San Diego Chargers have acquired quarterback Billy Volek from the Tennessee Titans for a conditional choice in the 2007 NFL draft.
Early terms of the trade, announced Tuesday, would send the Chargers' sixth-round choice to the Titans, but Tennessee would get a fifth-round pick instead if Volek sees action in 50 percent of San Diego's offensive plays this season.
Volek is the third quarterback on the Chargers' roster behind starter Philip Rivers and rookie Charlie Whitehurst. Rivers took over for last year's starter Drew Brees, who signed in the off-season with the New Orleans Saints.
Volek, a 7-year NFL veteran, has completed 312-of-517 pass attempts for 3,505 yards with 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 24 games with Tennessee, 10 of which were starts.
