Knee injury sidelines Eagles' Kearse

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jevon Kearse will miss the rest of the NFL season because of a knee injury, the team announced Monday.

Team officials said Kearse had a number of sprained ligaments in his left knee after he was hurt while teaming with Mike Patterson on a sack of New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. During the play Kearse's left knee slammed into Patterson, causing the sprains.

Kearse had one sack in the Eagles' season opener against Houston and had 2 1/2 sacks against the Giants before he was injured.

Kearse missed all but four games in the 2002 season with a foot injury as a member of the Tennessee Titans and missed three games because of injuries over his first two seasons in Philadelphia.

The University of Florida product has registered 66 sacks and 263 tackles in 97 games over his 8-year career with both Tennessee and Philadelphia.
