Jankovic cruises in China Open first round

BEIJING, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Sixth-seeded Jelena Jankovic lost only one game in collecting a first-round victory Monday in the $600,000 China Open tennis tournament.

Jankovic, a Serbian who advanced to the semifinals of the recent U.S. Open, eliminated Spain's Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 6-0, 6-1 to move into the second round of the hard courts tournament.

Also Monday a pair of Chinese wild-card entries took first-round victories Tiantian Sun stopped Russia Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 1-6, 6-2; and Shuai Peng defeated Colombia's Catalina Castano 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The other first-round match Monday saw Russia's Elena Vesnina get by Finland's Emma Laine 7-6 (7-0), 5-7, 6-3.

Sun earned a match with world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo in the second round. Mauresmo is the top-seed in the China Open while Svetlana Kuznetsova is second.

The China Open winner will claim a $95,500 payday.
