MADRID, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Ian Poulter posted an 8-under 64 Saturday to take the lead after three rounds of the Madrid Open.

Poulter made eight birdies and is 19-under 197 for a four-shot lead over Ricardo Gonzalez. He has yet to make a bogey in 54 holes this week.

Poulter ranks 53rd in the world and 22nd on the European Tour Order of Merit.

He has six European Tour wins, but none since the 2004 Volvo Masters Andalucia. He has three top-10 finishes in 14 starts as an exempt member of the PGA Tour this season.

Gonzalez shot his third consecutive 5-under 67 Saturday to reach 15-under 201. He seeks his fourth European Tour win and first since 2004.

Christian L. Nilsson (69) and co-second round leader Garry Orr (70) share third place at 14-under 202. Joakim Backstrom (67) and Raphael Jacquelin (67) are one shot further back at 203.
