
CINCINNATI, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Jake Peavy and three relievers combined on a six-hit shutout Wednesday night as San Diego blasted the Cincinnati Reds, 10-0.
Mike Piazza hit a three-run homer; Geoff Blum had two runs and three hits, including a two-run homer; Brian Giles had three runs, three hits, and two RBI; Adrian Gonzalez had two hits, and two RBI; Dave Roberts had two runs and two hits; and Josh Barfield had three hits for the Padres (75-69), who have split their last four games.
Peavy (9-14), who gave up three hits in six innings, walked one batter and struck out two.
He got help from Scott Cassidy, Brian Sweeney, and Mike Thompson.
Javier Valentin had three of the six hits for the Reds (72-73), who also have split their last four games.
Losing pitcher Kyle Lohse (2-3) was hammered for eight hits and seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings.
