ATLANTA, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A throwing error by Matt Diaz in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday led to a 6-5 Philadelphia win over Atlanta in the opener of a doubleheader.
On the play, Shane Victorino and Jeff Conine both scored.
The error came after Diaz misplayed a fly ball by David Dellucci.
Conine had two runs, two hits, and two RBI; Ryan Howard hit a sacrifice fly; and Jimmy Rollins had two runs and three hits for the Phillies (73-71), who need eight wins in their last 18 games to finish at least .500 for the year.
The winner was Rick White (4-1).
Tom Gordon earned his 29th save.
Starter Kyle Davies hit a solo home run; Andruw Jones hit an RBI double; Edgar Renteria had two hits, and one RBI; and Diaz drove in a run for the Braves (69-75), who have split their last four games.
The loser was Chad Paronto (2-3).
