Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

CINCINNATI, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Jason LaRue hit a home run in the bottom of the 11th inning Tuesday to give the Cincinnati Reds a 5-4 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Rich Aurilia hit a three-run homer for the Reds. With the win, Cincinnati climbed within 2 1/2 games of the Padres, who lead the NL wild card standings.
Eric Milton started for the Reds and allowed one run on four hits through five innings, but left the game with stiffness in his left elbow.
Adrian Gonzalez was 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for the Padres, who have lost three of their last four games. Mike Piazza hit a solo home run for San Diego.
