
DETROIT, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Josh Brown booted a 42-yard field goal as time expired Sunday afternoon, giving Seattle a 9-6 win over the Detroit Lions.
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was 25-of-30 passing for 210 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. Reigning league MVP Shaun Alexander gained 51 yards on 19 carries, Bobby Engram caught five passes for 52 yards, Darrell Jackson also had five catches for 47 yards, and Brown kicked three field goals for the reigning NFC champion Seahawks (1-0).
Brown also kicked a 51-yard field goal on the final play in the first half.
Seattle's Mike Holmgren became the 16th coach in NFL history to win 150 games, including playoffs, in his career.
Jon Kitna was 21-of-37 passing for 229 yards. Kevin Jones rushed for 35 yards on 14 carries and caught five passes for 45 yards, Mike Furrey made five receptions for 55 yards, and Jason Hanson kicked two field goals for the Lions (0-1).
