WNBA: Detroit 72, Sacramento 52

SACRAMENTO, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Katie Smith scored 22 points Wednesday night to lead Detroit over Sacramento, 72-52, and tie the WNBA Finals at two games each.

Cheryl Ford had 13 points and 10 rebounds; and Deanna Nolan, Swin Cash and Elaine Powell all scored eight points for the Shock, who forced a decisive fifth game on Saturday afternoon at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Mich.

Sacramento is trying to win its second straight title.

Detroit won the contest going away by out-scoring the Monarchs, 16-2, in the fourth quarter.

Nicole Powell scored 13 points, and Yolanda Griffith had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Monarchs, who had no other players in double figures.

Detroit out-shot Sacramento from the floor, 43.5 percent to 31.7 percent.

The Monarchs had an 11-game home playoff streak snapped.

Both teams committed 15 turnovers.
