MLB: Detroit 7, Minnesota 2

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Curtis Granderson, Omar Infante and Ivan Rodriguez hit solo homers and Marcus Thames hit a two-run shot Thursday night as Detroit beat Minnesota, 7-2.

Craig Monroe hit an RBI single; Infante had three hits; and Thames, Rodriguez and Granderson all had two hits for the Tigers (86-55), who have split their last 10 games.

Winner Justin Verlander (16-7) gave up one run and eight hits over seven innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

Michael Cuddyer hit a solo home run, Torii Hunter hit an RBI single, and both Luis Castillo and Jason Tyner had two hits for the Twins (80-58), who lost for the seventh time in their last 10 games.

Losing pitcher Scott Baker (4-8) gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings with no walks and two strikeouts.
