MLB: Texas 5, Oakland 4

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers edged Oakland 5-4 Tuesday, and the Athletics now lead the AL West by only 5 1/2 games over the LA Angels.

The Rangers rose to the occasion on the strength of Mark DeRosa's three-run homer.

Also for Texas, Michael Young went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, and Carlos Lee drove in one and scored a run.

Adam Eaton (5-4) started the game for the Rangers, allowing four runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. Akinori Otsuka worked the ninth for his 31st save of the season.

Frank Thomas hit a three-run home run and Nick Swisher also homered for Oakland.

Kirk Saarloos (7-7) took the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits in just three innings.
