
OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A three-run double by Mark Kotsay in a six-run bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday afternoon helped Oakland beat the Texas Rangers, 9-6.
With the victory, the Athletics avoided a three-game home sweep.
Kotsay also hit a sacrifice fly and finished with four RBI.
Frank Thomas had two runs and two hits, including a solo home run; Jason Kendall had one run, three hits and one RBI; Mark Ellis had one run, two hits and one RBI; while Marco Scutaro had two runs and two hits for the Athletics (80-59), who won for the sixth time in their last 10 games.
Winner Joe Blanton (15-10) surrendered six runs and 11 hits in six innings.
Justin Duchscherer recorded his eighth save.
Mark Teixeira hit two homers and drove in five runs, and Ian Kinsler hit an RBI double for the Rangers (72-69).
The loser was reliever Josh Rupe (0-1).
