MLB: Florida 2, Arizona 0

MIAMI, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Rookie right-hander Anibal Sanchez threw a no-hitter Wednesday night as Florida beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-0.

Joe Borchard and Miguel Cabrera each hit solo home runs, and Borchard had two of the five hits for the Marlins (70-69), who won for the eighth time in their last 11 games.

Sanchez (7-2) faced 31 batters, four over the nine-inning limit, and had four walks and six strikeouts.

Losing pitcher Edgar Gonzalez (1-3) yielded only two runs and five hits in six innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

Sanchez is the first Marlin to hurl a no-hitter since A.J. Burnett on May 12, 2001, against San Diego -- and was the 19th major league rookie since 1900 to throw a no-hitter.

Florida moved within 2 1/2 games of the Padres for the National League wild-card spot.
