CARSON, Calif., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Christian Gomez scored both goals Sunday night as D.C. United beat Chivas USA, 2-1, in a Major League Soccer contest at Carson, Calif.

United, which already has clinched a playoff spot, improved to 14-3-8 with the first win in its last six matches.

Claudio Suarez scored in the 32nd minute for Chivas (8-7-10).

Both net-keepers -- United's Troy Perkins and Preston Burpo of Chivas -- made one save. United had three shots on goal to two by Chivas.
