MLB: N.Y. Yankees 10, Minnesota 1

NEW YORK, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez hit two home runs Sunday afternoon to help the New York Yankees trounce Minnesota, 10-1.

Rodriguez hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth, a three-run blast in the bottom of the seventh and added an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for five RBI.

Jorge Posada hit two RBI singles and Robinson Cano had three hits, including a two-run double for the Yankees (81-54), who have split their last 10 games.

Winner Darrell Rasner (1-0) scattered a run on only four hits over six innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

Torii Hunter hit a solo home run in the top of the second and Jason Bartlett had two of the five hits for the Twins (78-57), who have split their last four games.

Losing pitcher Matt Garza (1-4) surrendered five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
