
OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Frank Thomas blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday night, giving Oakland a 5-4 win over Baltimore, for its 10th straight home win.
Mark Ellis hit both an RBI single and an RBI double and had three hits; both Thomas and Jay Payton had two runs and two hits; and Marco Scutaro drove in a run for the Athletics (78-56), who have won three in a row and eight of their last 10 games.
In relief, the winner was Brad Halsey (4-4).
Justin Duchscherer earned his seventh save.
Melvin Mora hit a solo home run and had three hits and two RBI; Jeff Fiorentino hit a two-run single; and David Newhan had a run and three hits for the Orioles (60-74), who have dropped three of their last four games.
In relief, the losing pitcher was Todd Williams (2-4).
