COL FB: Penn State 34, Akron 16

UNIVERSIY PARK, Pa., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Anthony Morelli threw three touchdown passes Saturday as the 19th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions posted a 34-16 win over the University of Akron Zips.

Morelli, a junior, completed 16-of-31 passes for 206 yards for Penn State, which captured a share of the Big Ten title last year. Jordan Norwood caught seven passes for 57 yards and a touchdown for the Nittany Lions (1-0).

Dennis Kennedy rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown and caught eight passes for 50 yards for the Zips (0-1). Luke Getsy went 22-for-42 for 160 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the loss.
