NFL: Carolina 15, Pittsburgh 13

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- John Kasay kicked a 29-yard field goal as time expired Thursday night as Carolina beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 15-13.

The kick was Kasay's fifth field goal of the contest.

Rookie reserve Brett Basanez completed 15 of his 26 passes for 148 yards; Eric Shelton gained 44 yards on 10 rushing attempts; Justin McCullum made three receptions for 57 yards; and Taye Biddle caught five passes for 41 yards for the Panthers, who were unbeaten in their four pre-season contests.

Omar Jacobs was 13-of-19 for 179 yards; Charlie Batch threw one interception; Duce Staley gained 46 yards on 19 carries; rookie Cedrick Humes had a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter; and Walter Young made two catches for 57 yards for the Steelers (0-4).

In Week One of the regular season, Pittsburgh is home to Miami on Sept. 7; and on Sept. 10, Atlanta is at Carolina.
