Erlandsson leads BMW Open

MUNICH, Germany, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Sweden's Martin Erlandsson is the leader after 36 holes of the European Tour's BMW Open Golf Tournament in Munich, Germany.

Erlandsson broke away from the pack Friday with a 4-under-par 68 and is 9-under 135 through two rounds.

"I did start out a little bit intense today, but I managed to get an early birdie and from there on I tried to relax and I'll try to do that tomorrow as well," said Erlandsson, who is hoping to solidify his chances of making the European Ryder Cup team. "It is an old cliché, but I am trying just to concentrate on one shot at a time and not get too far ahead of myself. That's the key for me I think."

His countryman, Mattias Eliasson (66), Denmark's Soren Hansen (66), defending champion David Howell (69) of England, and Alejandro Canizares (65) of Spain are tied for second place at 8-under 136 heading into Saturday.
