Team USA advances to semifinals at Saitama

SAITAMA, Japan, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Carmelo Anthony scored 19 points Wednesday to lead Team USA over Germany, 85-65, in the quarterfinals of the World Basketball Championships in Saitama, Japan.

LeBron James added 13 points and five rebounds. Joe Johnson scored 11 points, Dwayne Wade had five assists and Chris Bosh had 10 points and seven rebounds to help Team USA remain one of four undefeated teams in the tournament.

Team USA broke the contest open in the third quarter, when it outscored the Germans, 27-13, expanding upon a 40-39 halftime lead.

Team USA won the game going away despite shooting only 25 percent from three-point range.

Dirk Nowitzki and Ademola Okulaja both had 15 points and nine rebounds, but no other player scored in double figures for Germany, which committed 24 turnovers to 13 for Team USA.

Neither team shot the ball very well, with Germany shooting 38.9 percent, and Team USA making 37.6 percent.
