MLB: San Diego 8, Arizona 3

PHOENIX, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- San Diego defeated Arizona, 8-3, Tuesday using power, with Geoff Blum hitting a three-run homer and Mike Piazza adding a two-run shot.

Two-out RBI singles from Josh Barfield and Russell Branyan in the second and third innings gave the Padres a 2-0 lead before the homers.

The Padres' Chris Young pitched seven innings, giving up two runs, only one earned, on three hits, striking out 11 and walking none.

For the Diamondbacks, Orlando Hudson went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Arizona still lost for the ninth time in 11 games.

Enrique Gonzalez took the loss, giving up four runs on 10 hits through five innings.
