SAN DIEGO, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Army will play in the Poinsettia Bowl this year, if the Black Knights are bowl eligible.
The Poinsettia Bowl, Dec. 19 in San Diego, will pit a representative from the Mountain West Conference against an at-large opponent. The Black Knights would be that foe if they qualify for postseason play.
"We couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to showcase our football program in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl," said Army Athletics Director Kevin Anderson. "We feel the tradition and pageantry of the Army football program is second to none and would provide a terrific spectacle for the people of San Diego."
Army hasn't participated in a bowl game since 1996, when the Black Knights finished 10-1 and played Auburn in the Independence Bowl.
