
DENVER, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- A fourth quarter rally came up short Sunday night and Houston lost an NFL preseason game at Denver, 17-14.
Jake Plummer completed 10 of his 22 passes for 96 yards, no touchdowns or interceptions. His rookie back-up, Jay Cutler, was 5-of-9 for 69 yards, no touchdowns or interceptions.
Cedric Cobbs rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on seven carries; Tatum Bell added 36 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries; and Javon Walker and Rod Smith combined to make six receptions for 74 yards for the Broncos (2-1).
David Carr was 15-of-22 for 128 yards and one interception. Sage Rosenfels was 10-of-15 for 96 yards and one touchdown.
Wali Lundy gained 44 yards on 10 carries; Vernand Morency rushed for 36 yards on 13 carries; Nicholas Lachey made five catches for 40 yards; and Derrick Lewis caught a 19-yard touchdown pass for the Texans (2-1).
