MLB: St. Louis 10, Chi. Cubs 6

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Gary Bennett's first career grand slam, with two outs in the ninth, led the St. Louis Cardinals past the Chicago Cubs, 10-6, Sunday night.

The Cubs rallied from three down to tie the game at 6-6, but Bennett hit the game-winner for a second straight night as the Cardinals completed a three-game sweep. Bennett had the game-winning hit with two out in the bottom of the ninth Saturday.

Juan Encarnacion had four hits and scored two runs, and St. Louis starter Jeff Weaver had two RBI.

Weaver allowed five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings and did not figure in the decision. Braden Looper (7-1) earned the win, pitching a perfect ninth for St. Louis.

Cubs reliever Bob Howry (3-5) took the loss.

Cubs starter Les Walrond gave up six runs over 2 2/3 innings in his major league debut, as Chicago lost for the seventh time in eight games.

Jacque Jones homered and Freddie Bynum scored twice and drove in one run for the Cubs.
