HOBART, Australia, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Australian swimming stars Libby Lenton and Leisel Jones have smashed world records at the Australian Shortcourse Championships.

On the final day of the meet, Lenton won the women's 100 meters butterfly in 55.95 seconds, beating American Natalie Coughlin's old mark of 56.34.

Jones swam the 100 meters breaststroke in 1 minute 3.86 seconds, knocking 0.26 seconds off her own world mark, set earlier in the championships.

In the men's 1500 meters freestyle, Grant Hackett made a sensational comeback from shoulder surgery, winning in 14 minutes 19.47 seconds -- the second-fastest time in history.
