SOUTH AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods Sunday birdied the fourth playoff hole to beat Stewart Cink at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at South Akron, Ohio.
After a tournament filled with erratic play, Woods (68) finished regulation tied with Cink (69) at 10-under 270.
Woods shot 2-under 68 in the final round, despite a bogey at the par-five 16th hole. He won his fourth straight tournament -- including the British Open, the Buick Open and the PGA Championship -- and collected his 52nd PGA Tour victory, moving him into a tie for fifth with Byron Nelson on the all-time wins list.
"That's misleading," said Woods. "Mr. Nelson retired at a very early age, and if he would have kept playing another 10 years, kept playing to the longevity that the guys do now, I'm sure he probably would have even eclipsed Mr. Snead."
Sam Snead scored the most PGA tour wins with 82. Jack Nicklaus is second on the list with 73, followed by Ben Hogan with 64 and Arnold Palmer with 62.
Jim Furyk (68) finished third Sunday at 9-under 271.
